This unit introduces some of the basic elements of ministry within a contemporary Christian community setting. It will focus on ways of delivering and enhancing teaching ministry in the church, the meaning and practice of leadership appropriate to a variety of contemporary contexts, means of developing and enhancing the leadership of others, and effective methods for developing community life. It seeks to form a theological grounding for ministry that integrates both ministry practice and classroom learning.

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an awareness of the disciplines and practice of teaching, of leadership, and of the foundations and development of community life in a church context
  2. Articulate biblical and theological foundations for teaching, leadership and community building in a Christian context
  3. Demonstrate an awareness and critique of the skills required in leadership, community building and teaching the faith in congregational life.
