This Week at UFT
1. DML Library Saturday Opening Times
The DML library will be open on the following Saturdays in Semester 1, between 1.00pm and 5.00pm: May 19 / May 26 / June 2 and June 9
2. Evening Prayer: Thursdays 5.10-5.30 pm
All are welcome in the CTM chapel at 5.10pm on Thursdays for a service of evening prayer using psalms, reading and silence in the Benedictine tradition. Note the slightly later start for those who have afternoon classes.

3. Stanton Archer Prizes in Biblical Studies and Church History
These prizes are funded by the generous gift of a former student who was awarded the Bachelor of Theology degree in 1987. At the discretion of the Departments concerned, a prize of $100 annually is awarded to the best UFT Bachelor of Theology or Master of Divinity student in first, second and third level Biblical Studies, and first and third level Church History units.
The 2011 Stanton Archer Prizes have been awarded as follows:

4. First Semester 2012 Examinations Timetable
Students with written examinations should consult the examination timetable, available on the UFT noticeboards and at http://uft.edu.au/content/exam-timetables. Exam week runs from 12 June to 14 June 2012. Rules for the conduct of examinations are available in the MCD University of Divinity Academic Conduct Policy, at http://www.mcd.edu.au/policies-procedures
5. Extensions
Students who seek an extension up until the 15 June may negotiate one with the lecturer in charge of their unit. Extensions beyond this date can only be approved by the UFT Dean. Applications must be submitted on the Dean’s Extension form, available from http://uft.edu.au/content/uft-forms. Applications will only be accepted if they are submitted prior to the 15 June. Normally a Dean’s Extension will not be granted for more than two weeks. Please note that ALL requests for extension should be accompanied by written evidence (e.g., medical certificate, letter).
6. 2011 Essays
Uncollected essays from 2011 are currently held at the CTM reception desk for students to collect. Students who are unable to personally collect last year’s essays may contact Bethany Broadstock at reception and forward a stamped self addressed envelope to the UFT office to have their essay/s posted. Essays will be destroyed if they are not collected by May 30.

7. Service of Welcome - Rev Dr Monica Melanchthon

8. Moorhouse Lectures at St Paul’s Cathedral in June
The Revd Dr Charles Sherlock, known to many of us as lecturer in theology at both Ridley Melbourne and then MCD, is giving the Moorhouse Lectures – a series of eight lectures on The Word and Words of God. These will be held on eight separate dates in June at 6 pm after Evensong, commencing on 4 June. You may like to attend one, some or all of them. The lectures will seek to engage the Vision of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, Making the Word of God Fully known (Colossians 1.25) and will be delivered on June 4,7,11,14,18,21,25 and 27. The Lectureship, named in memory of Bishop James Moorhouse, aims to present ‘thoughtful reflection on the Creeds, Holy Scriptures and Social Aspects of the Christian faith’ in their widest application’. 9. Discussion with Andrew West
You are invited to a special evening to hear Andrew West discuss ‘The Challenge of Faith and Politics in a Secular Age’. Andrew West is a long-time journalist and broadcaster. He is now the presenter of the weekly Religion and Ethics Program on ABC radio. To be held at 7:30pm on May 24th at the Centre for Theology and Ministry, 29 College Crescent, Parkville 3052. Please note there is limited parking available.
10. Religion in the University – A one day seminar exploring the study of religion.
Friday 25th May, 9:30-5:30. The Oratory, Newman College, 887 Swanston St Parkville 3052.
This seminar explores religious studies in the university, both historic and continuing, with a view to forming a support network on campus and online. Discussion includes a historical perspective, religious studies at the University of Melbourne and other case studies. Speakers include Brian Howe, Rufus Black and Peter Sherlock along with others from the Asia and Nossal institutes. $30pp / $20pp (students) including lunch and morning/afternoon tea. 11. Education, Theology & Mission - the impact and implications of Child Theology
Melbourne July 12, 13. Dr. Marcia Bunge, Professor of Humanities and Theology at Christ College (the Honours college of Valparaiso University, Indiana, USA), is arguably the world’s most influential current scholar with respect to children and theology. Editor of the seminal books The Child in Christian Thought, The Child in the Bible, Children and Childhood in World Religions: Primary Sources and Texts and the upcoming Child Theologies: Themes and Perspectives from World Christianity, Marcia brings a wonderful blend of scholarly depth, educational experience and practical application.
Education, Theology and Mission - the impact and implications of Child Theology will include opportunities to engage and reflect with Marcia, local theologians and one another in a combination of large group and small group settings.
