This Week at UFT
1. Final teaching week of semester
The final week of semester one begins on Monday. Please note that student evaluation surveys will be conducted during this week in all units. We welcome all student feedback: once results are finalised, staff receive the surveys and are asked to report on feedback for commendation or improvements to the UFT’s Departments and Academic Board. Congratulations to all on making it to the end of semester!

2. 2011 Essays 

Uncollected essays from 2011 are currently held at the CTM reception desk for students to collect. Students who are unable to personally collect last year’s essays may contact Bethany Broadstock at reception and forward a stamped self addressed envelope to the UFT office to have their essay/s posted. Essays will be destroyed if they are not collected by May 30.

3. Evening Prayer: Thursdays 5.10-5.30 pm. 
All are welcome in the CTM chapel at 5.10pm on Thursdays for a service of evening prayer using psalms, reading and silence in the Benedictine tradition. Note the slightly later start for those who have afternoon classes.

4. DML Library Saturday Opening Times
The DML library will be open on the following Saturdays in Semester 1, between 1.00pm and 5.00pm: June 2 and June 9

5. Service of Welcome - Rev Dr Monica Melanchthon
The Board of the Centre for Theology and Ministry warmly invite you to attend a service of welcome for Rev Dr Monica Melanchthon as Professor of Old Testament on Friday 1 June 2012 at 4pm at the Centre for Theology and Ministry, 29 College Crescent, Parkville 3052. 6. Ordinations and Placements for UFT students

The UFT congratulates all its graduates who are preparing for ordination and placements in the coming months. Please let us know details of your ministries so we can pray for you and show our support.

Barbara Strickland will be ordained as a Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church in Australia - on Sunday 17th June at 3pm at Croydon Uniting Church and will start in July as the Uniting Church minister at Stratford in Gippsland (comprising Stratford and Briagolong congregations and Perry Bridge Faith Community.) Congratulations from the UFT Community.

Professor Emeritus, Historical and Systematic Theology. The Catholic University of America
Editor of the English version of The History of Vatican II followed by the launch of
Yves Congar’s My Journal of the Council by Dr Janette Gray rsm. Yves Congar OP (d. 1995) is widely recognized as one of the most important Roman Catholic theologians of the twentieth century and a major influence on the theology of the documents of Vatican II.

Janette Gray is a Sister of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia and PNG and Principal of Jesuit Theological College in the United Faculty of Theology, MCD University of Divinity.

8. PhD Scholarship Opportunities in Theology and Religious Studies
- Call for Applications - 29 June 2012
MCD University of Divinity invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS). This is an extraordinary scholarships round, and presents an exciting opportunity to undertake fully funded doctoral research at Australia’s newest university. MCD intends to offer 2 APAs (valued at $23,728 pa each). These are open to Australian and New Zealand citizens, and to Permanent Residents of Australia who have lived in Australia continuously for 12 months, and who are eligible to apply for entry to a doctoral program at MCD University of Divinity. MCD also intends to offer 1 IPRS. This is open to any overseas student who has, or is intending to apply for, a student visa to study in Australia, and who is eligible to apply for entry to a doctoral program at MCD University of Divinity. The awardee will have her or his tuition fees and medical insurance covered, and will also be eligible for a stipend of $23,728 pa. 9. Education, Theology & Mission - the impact and implications of Child Theology
Melbourne July 12, 13. Dr. Marcia Bunge, Professor of Humanities and Theology at Christ College (the Honours college of Valparaiso University, Indiana, USA), is arguably the world’s most influential current scholar with respect to children and theology. Editor of the seminal books The Child in Christian Thought, The Child in the Bible, Children and Childhood in World Religions: Primary Sources and Texts and the upcoming Child Theologies: Themes and Perspectives from World Christianity, Marcia brings a wonderful blend of scholarly depth, educational experience and practical application.

Education, Theology and Mission - the impact and implications of Child Theology will include opportunities to engage and reflect with Marcia, local theologians and one another in a combination of large group and small group settings.
