1. 2012 UFT Handbook
The 2012 UFT Handbook can be located at http://www.uft.edu.au/content/uft-handbooks
The UFT Handbook is a guide to study and student services for students enrolled in units at UFT. Hard copies may be collected from CTM reception. For information on enrolment, courses, timetables, and unit descriptions, current and prospective students must consult the UFT website.

2. DP300 Caring and Teaching in the Church and Community
The Caring and Teaching intensive for graduate students begins Monday 6 February. Enrolments for this unit are now closed.

3. 2012 units requiring early enrolments Students are reminded that some units in first semester 2012 have an earlier closing date as classes begin prior to the 27 February 2012. The enrolment date for the following units must completed by 5pm on the specified dates: Introduction to Theological Studies by Monday 6 February 2012, New Testament Greek A by 13 February 2012. Greek students are reminded there is a compulsory two-day presessional class to be held on 20 and 21 February 2012.

4. First semester enrolments close 16 February 2012
All new and returning students are reminded that the final date for first semester enrolment forms to be submitted to the UFT office is Thursday 16 February 2012. No enrolments will be accepted after this date.

All the information you need to reenrol is available on our website. Click on the Timetables button for information on all units for 2012, and select the appropriate course to see available units.

Enrolment forms may be downloaded from the links on the left hand side of the screen. Hard copies of forms may be collected from CTM/UFT reception or the UFT office.

Students seeking course advice are advised to contact the Dean for advice by email on dean@uft.edu.au. For students seeking a phone or personal appointment with the Dean, please telephone the UFT office on 9340 8890.

5. Change of enrolment and census date
Enrolled students may withdraw from first semester units without penalty or payment of fees up until Census Date on 16 March 2012. An MCD Change of Enrolment form specifying which units are to be removed should be submitted by 5pm on Thursday 15 March 2012 to the UFT office.

6. United Faculty of Theology Commencement Lecture
The 2012 UFT Commencement Lecture will be delivered at 6.30 pm on Thursday 23 February 2012 at Trinity College Theological School, Royal Parade, Parkville by the Revd Canon Dr Ray Cleary AM, Sambell Lecturer in Pastoral and Public Theology, Trinity College, on the topic ‘The Public Domain, the Church and Justice’. Followed by light refreshments.

7. First semester orientation Thursday 23 February
New students are strongly encouraged to attend the UFT first semester orientation from 3pm to 8pm on Thursday 23 February. It is a great opportunity to meet other new students, and to learn information about student support services, welfare, worship opportunities and to meet staff. The first semester orientation event is part of a whole afternoon and evening of activities, it also gives students a chance to see all three UFT Colleges. The timetable is as follows:
3.00-5.00pm Orientation for new students (CTM)
5.00-6.30pm Light meal for all students and chance to meet staff (JTC)
6.30-8.00pm UFT Commencement Lecture (Trinity)
Please register your attendance at the meal with the UFT Office no later than Thursday 16 February 2012 (9340 8890, or email bethany.broadstock@ctm.uca.edu.au).

8. Academic Skills Workshops commence 28 February 2012 at 2pm
The UFT offers a program of Academic Skills Workshops to enrolled students at no charge. This series of nine workshops are held on Tuesdays from 2pm-3.30pm at CTM room G3, beginning Tuesday 28 February. They are led by the UFT’s Academic Skills Tutor, Dr Richard Blandford. Students are also strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session in the Dalton McCaughey Library (usually held during week 1 of semester) or to make an appointment with library staff for an introduction to the library catalogue. Please register for the workshop series with Bethany Broadstock at CTM reception (email Bethany.Broadstock@ctm.uca.edu.au or phone 9340 8890). Students are urged to attend the full program and not isolated sessions.

9. Ordinations and Placements for UFT students

The UFT congratulates all its graduates who are preparing for ordination and placements in the coming months. Please let us know details of your ministries so we can pray for you and show our support.


Dr Linda Fiske will be ordained as a Deacon by the Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne at 11am on Saturday 4 February 2012 at St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne. All are welcome to attend.

The Ordination and Induction of Sandy Brodine as a Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church will take place at Ivanhoe Uniting Church on Sunday 4 March 2012 at 2.30 pm. All are welcome to attend.

10. Sing A New Song - Book Launch
Sunday 5 February 2012, at about 11.30am, The Penman Room, the Angican Centre, Flinders Lane Melbourne (following the 10.30am
Choral Communion Service at St Paul’s Cathedral). Light refreshments will follow the launch. The special launch price is $25. Sing a New Song explores the way in which the Australian Hymn Book and its successor, Together in Song, evolved through a complex and demanding compilation and editorial process. The author, Emeritus Professor Brian Fletcher OAM, was the foundation Bicentennial Professor of Australian History at the University of Sydney and he will sign copies at the launch. 11. Position Vacant: Family Ministry Coordinator
The Avenue Uniting Church, Blackburn is seeking a part-time Family Ministry Coordinator.
As a member of our ministry team, the Family Ministry Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supporting and developing existing and new programs and activities as part of our growing ministry and involvement with children and families. This is a part-time position up to 12 hours per week (negotiable).
